Lovey girl is a 20+ year old Arabian mare. She ended up in a kill lot with a halter grown into her head. She was so underweight they did not think she would make it, so they cut the halter out and put her in a stall.
Well, Lovey did make it! She started gaining weight at the kill lot and they decided to post her instead of shipping her right away. When I saw the video it absolutely broke my heart. Her eyes were dull and her head low.
We reached out on YouTube to see if anyone could help us rescue her. Many different people were touched by her video and took action. Within just 3 hours her bail was paid and we were getting the trailer ready to give her the ride of her life — her freedom ride HOME!
Lovey was immediately seen by our vet. She had strangles and was touchy around her head but she was eating and drinking! The following days were difficult. Love was very sick, and she was so thin that we could see her back bone and ribs. Our vet told us which signs to look for and we watched her improve every single day. We started a feed program to help her gain weight — she enjoyed every meal!
Fast forward to today and she is showing us her beautiful Arabian fire. You would never know that she is 20 years old — when she runs she just floats effortlessly. She is a beautiful horse with so much fire in her eyes. She has a long way to go yet but every single day she gets better and better.
She looks nothing like the helpless horse I watched in the kill lot some months ago. She is a true picture of determination!
